Algarve Pool Owners Guide - Or How to Save 70% on Maintenance Costs
Everything you need to know about pool water quality, chemical use, and safety in the Algarve — plus the one upgrade that changes the whole equation.
When you own a pool in the beautiful Algarve, there are some challenges to overcome regarding water quality, chemical usage, and safety.
Please read the article on Pool Water and Water Basics first and here we'll show you how to make your pool super soft and reduce maintenance costs by up to 70% at the same time.

The Algarve’s Hard Water Problem
The Algarve pool problem starts with hard water, which has a high pH. To regulate the pH, you need to use pH minus, which is mostly granulated or liquid in 25-litre canisters.
If you don't regulate the pH, limescale starts to build up on your pool walls and water line.
In addition, algae become a real problem with pH levels above 7.8, and chlorine stops being effective for disinfection.
If you use a different pH minus product, or try to outsmart the pool maintenance industry with citric acid or hydrochloric acid, you can find yourself re-grouting the pool within 12 months — the acid buffer in the water gets used up too quickly, and the water flips to a pH of 3, deep into acidic territory.
As a pool owner, what do I actually want?I would love to have a pool that is:
If the above goals are on your list too, let's find some solutions here. Oh, I should mention — everything we're discussing here has been proven around the Algarve. Which means, if pools and water really resonate with you and you'd like to see it with your own eyes, contact us and we'll show you around the different projects. |

The Secret: Water Re-Vitalisation
A number of water experts, such as Viktor Schauberger and Johann Grander, both Austrians, have researched and written about the different states and properties of water. Water is by far the most magical and least logical element there is.
If you've never heard about the different properties of water, you can read some articles here or do an online search for Prof. Emoto, Viktor Schauberger, and Johann Grander.
Water Revitalisation according to Johann Grander
Johann Grander understood water and the information it carries — and how that information can be transported from one body of water to another. Applied to pool maintenance, this means: run your pool water through a Grander re-vitaliser and, based on our own experience, the water noticeably softens.

Grander Water Revitalisation - What We've Seen in Practice
| Metric | Before | After Re-Vitalisation |
|---|---|---|
| Chemical use | Baseline | –70% |
| Pump circulation time | 12 hrs/day | 6 hrs/day (–50%) |
| Annual running cost (150 m³ pool) | ~300 -1,500 €/year | ~80 €/year |
| Water feel | Hard | Noticeably softer |
The revitaliser itself is a one-time investment — no ongoing consumables are required for this part of the system.
