The Algarve, in the south of Portugal, is one of the last largely unspoilt coastal regions in Europe. Far from industrial production and mass manufacturing, this beautiful Atlantic coastline benefits from clean ocean waters, abundant sunshine and constant coastal winds — ideal natural conditions for traditional sea salt production, a craft that has been practised here for centuries.

It is here, in the traditional salt pans of Belamandil near Olhão, that the Algarve’s skilled marnotos — traditional salt workers — harvest this Fine Traditional Organic Sea Salt by hand. The work of the marnoto is a time-honoured profession passed down through generations, requiring experience, patience and a close understanding of the tides, weather and evaporation process. Using simple traditional tools and no industrial machinery, they carefully collect the salt crystals exactly as their ancestors once did.

Unlike coarse sea salt commonly used as a finishing salt, this variety is specially prepared for everyday cooking. After the natural crystals are harvested, they are gently dried and finely milled to create a smooth, versatile texture that dissolves easily and distributes flavour evenly throughout dishes.

The result is a 100% natural, unrefined sea salt, free from chemical additives or artificial processing. Produced using only seawater, sun and wind, it retains valuable trace minerals from the Atlantic Ocean and delivers a clean, balanced flavour with authentic character.

In the kitchen, this fine sea salt is a true everyday essential — perfect for seasoning vegetables, soups, sauces, pasta, meat, fish and homemade bread. Its fine texture makes it especially practical for cooking and baking, blending effortlessly into recipes while enhancing natural flavours.

Harvested within the protected coastal ecosystem of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, this sea salt reflects both the natural purity of the Algarve and Portugal’s rich heritage of artisanal salt-making.

Whether for simple home cooking or special meals shared with family and friends, this traditional sea salt brings the taste and tradition of the Atlantic coast directly to your kitchen.
